Elcano and Magellan’s famous journey recreated for new Prime Video series

24th February 2020 - StreamedTV

Amazon Prime Video is joining forces with RTVE for Boundless, a new four-episode drama about Juan Sebastián Elcano and Ferdinand Magellan’s historic 16th century voyage to prove that the Earth was not flat.

500 years since voyage, Boundless will revisit this spectacular feat of human endeavour for a TV series like no other.

Across four 60-minute episodes, Boundless will depict the pair’s thrilling expedition as they head into the unknown on an action-packed adventure.

The “high-budget, cinematic production” is set to begin filming this summer in locations across the world including the Dominican Republic, the Canaries and the Basque Country, with filming of maritime scenes taking place at the UK’s renowned Pinewood Studios.

To recreate the iconic voyage, the Victoria and Trinidad ships will be reconstructed and a replica of the Nao Victoria will be used; the first boat to sail around the world and the only one of the five expedition boats that came back to port.

“We are excited to participate in a project of this scale in which one of history’s most incredible journeys will be brought to many people around the world through Amazon Prime Video,” said Ricardo Cabornero, Head of Prime Video Content, Amazon Spain.

“The series, directed by renowned director Simon West, will count with all technical resources to be a production full of action and epic.”

Boundless will launch exclusively in 2021 on Amazon Prime Video in the United Kingdom, Spain, the United States and Latin America
