Frankie Boyle and Jo Brand to present new iPlayer exclusive shows

23rd March 2015 - StreamedTV

bbc-iplayer-logo_900The BBC has announced a raft of new iPlayer exclusives, including shows from Matt Berry, Frankie Boyle and Jo Brand.

Berry kicks off the season on April 5th with a brand new topical comedy series ‘Matt Berry Does…’ starting with a look at the Oxford/Cambridge boat race.

Following his successful Scottish Referendum Autopsy, which was seen by more than 715,000 iPlayer users, Frankie Boyle will take a satirical look at this May’s General Election in his Election Autopsy.

Also airing in May, Private View on Grayson Perry will see Jo Brand given exclusive access to Perry’s new exhibition the Turner Contemporary in Margate.

Other commissions announced today include a horror documentary from filmmaker and journalist Charlie Lyne and a series of short films to coincide with the BBC’s Young Artist Day, starting with Women Who Spit which features five of the UK’s most exciting young female poets tackling a range of tough topics that pre-occupy young people.

There’s also Fast Cuts which will feature established and emerging Muslim comedian, including Tez Ilyas and Guzzy Bear aka Mobeen while one of BBC iPlayer’s first Original Drama Shorts, My Jihad, returns as a series this summer.

Also returning is the Funny Valentines comedy shorts stand which last year featured Bill Bailey, Romesh Ranganathan, Sara Pascoe, Limmy and Nick Helm and has had 1.3m views so far.

Victoria Jaye, Head of TV Content for BBC iPlayer, says: “I’m thrilled to have such a vast range of fantastic content coming exclusively to iPlayer in the next few months.

“BBC iPlayer is fast becoming one of the most exciting places for British writers, artists and film makers to create ambitious new work, from original comedy and drama, to feature length documentaries and topical arts and entertainment.

“With requests for iPlayer exclusive content more than tripling in the last year, audiences are recognising BBC iPlayer as more than just a catch-up service.”
