Scottish YouView viewers gain STV Player

28th August 2012 - StreamedTV

YouView combines broadcast channels with broadband delivered content
YouView viewers in Scotland can now access catch-up content through a new STV Player app.

Developed by BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, Arqiva, BT and Talk Talk, YouView combines broadcast channels with broadband delivered content from catch-up services such as the BBC’s iPlayer and 4oD.

The partner ISPs are also making content available to their broadband customers while Sky has brought its new IPTV service NOW TV to the platform.

Until today viewers north of the England/Scotland border have lacked a catch-up player for their local Scottish ITV region, however the new player is now live within the STV licence areas of Scotland.

The ITV Player continues to give Scottish viewers access to shows broadcast on ITV2, 3 & 4.

During set-up the YouView service asks viewers to enter their postcode to enable delivery of the correct ITV regions and catch-up services.

Alistair Brown, Chief Technology and Platforms Officer at STV said: “YouView represents a major development in the evolution of TV in the UK offering an exciting new way for viewers to watch and move between live and catch-up TV. It is great that STV is one of the first content partners to go live on this new and innovative platform.”

Richard Halton, YouView CEO, added: “We are very pleased to have STV on board as one of the first content partners for YouView. STV is one of the UK’s most popular television networks offering brilliant original content and it is great that their player is now live on YouView, giving users on-demand access to the channel.”

ITV viewers in England and Wales are unaffected by the changes.
