Over at paidContent Robert Andrews reports that FilmFlex UK – the company behind Film 4 and Virgin Media’s on demand movie services – is about to unveil another big client this autumn.
Robert describes the client as a potentially “significant new business line for FilmFlex.”
My hunch is that the launch is somehow connected with the arrival of YouView which is expected to launch its advertising campaign in the build up to Christmas.
Even if I’m wrong, YouView still offers FilmFlex a significant opportunity.
As a white label provider, the company already has the rights and technology new entrants in the pay per view (PPV) space need to compete with Sky’s NOW TV, LOVEFiLM and Netflix, who we expect to launch on YouView shortly.
With a few smart partnerships FilmFlex could end up powering almost all the PPV movie services on YouView, while remaining an unknown brand to the end consumer.
As I’ve said before, YouView offers new and smaller existing players in the Pay TV space a chance to compete like never before.
I know of at least one other big name PPV film service heading to YouView in the coming months. 2012 could well end with YouVIew homes being spoilt for choice and Sky facing competition within a platform for the first time.
YouView promised to change how we watch TV, I’m increasingly clear they’ll deliver on that promise.
