Amazon is set to launch its first German series, You Are Wanted, to Prime Video members across more than 200 countries and territories.
Debuting on 17th March, the series tells the story of Lukas Franke (Matthias Schweighöfer), a young hotel manager and father who is brutally torn out of his everyday life when his personal data is hacked and he finds the story of his life beginning to be rewritten.
As strange news continues to emerge, Lukas finds his digital identity continuously manipulated, arousing the suspicion of the German Federal Criminal Office (BKA), who accuse him of being a member of a terrorist organisation. Even his wife (Alexandra Maria Lara) begins to doubt him.
When his child is threatened, it is obvious to Lukas that he has to fight back. He joins forces with Lena Arandt (Karoline Herfurth), who is also a victim of the hackers. With her help he tries to find them and hunt them down. Who is behind the conspiracy? Why was he targeted? Lukas is forced to fight back, find the perpetrators, prove his innocence and get back his old life.
“When we created You Are Wanted, we aimed at making a German series that would appeal to both a German and international audience,” says Schweighöfer, who also produced the series.
“Together with Amazon, we are making that happen for the first time in German TV history. I’m really looking forward to showing this thrilling story to fans around the world.”
Christoph Schneider, Managing Director of Amazon Video Germany, added: “Almost exactly one year ago, Amazon Prime Video, together with our partners Warner Bros. and PANTALEON Films, was the first video streaming service to announce that it will launch a German Original TV show.
“Today, You Are Wanted is setting new levels of ambition: It’s the first German TV show to be available almost everywhere in the world. That’s ground-breaking news for the German TV industry. We believe that quality shows made in Germany like You Are Wanted can excite customers all around the globe.”
Besides Schweighöfer, You Are Wanted casts German actors like Alexandra Maria Lara (Vier gegen die Bank, Der Untergang), Karoline Herfurth (Fack ju Göhte, Das Parfum – Die Geschichte eines Mörders), and Tom Beck (Einstein). All six episodes will be available with dubbing in English, French, Italian and Spanish. Additionally, subtitles will be available in Portuguese, Hindi and Japanese.
Prime Video is available to anyone with an Amazon Prime subscription or available as a standalone monthly subscription.
