BBC bosses have been given the go-ahead to boost the number of archive available on iPlayer.
Media regulator Ofcom has agreed to remove rules limiting the number of shows available after the broadcaster argued that they were restricting its ability to boost the service’s appeal and meet audience expectations.
However, it said the BBC “will still be required to consider whether any future changes to BBC iPlayer could have a material impact on competition.”
The iPlayer is serving as a first stop for an ever-increasing section of the audience who prefer streaming over watching or recording linear broadcast TV.
