How many times have you watched The Grand Tour trailer? I’m up to about 30 viewings and have loved it every time.
Now, I don’t – indeed, can’t – drive but I still appreciate the sight of a well designed car being put through its paces and I love the spectacular views which provide backdrops for the trailer’s stunts and races.
But what really makes it a pleasure to watch is the seemingly effortless chemistry and friendship between Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May and it’s no surprise that Amazon flag this up in the trailer:
The trio’s easy, relaxed banter was always the magic ingredient which made Top Gear fun to watch and the painfully obvious absence of any chemistry between Chris Evans and Matt LeBlanc is one of the reasons I and many turned off earlier this year.
The Grand Tour’s trailer – seen more than 5m times on YouTube, in addition to any viewings on Amazon’s own platforms – proves what many of us always said: Amazon doesn’t need the Top Gear brand, format, set or The Stig in order for the new show to succeed.
The Grand Tour is going to be huge.
