Amazon Prime Video has announced a multi-territory deal for Starz’s The Girlfriend Experience.

The 13-part series, which is executive produced by Steven Soderbergh, follows Christine Reade, a second year student at Chicago-Burnham Law School and a new intern at a prestigious law firm.

Working hard to establish herself at the firm, her focus quickly shifts when a classmate introduces her to the world of transactional relationships. Known as GFEs, they are women who provide The Girlfriend Experience — emotional and sexual relationships at a very high price.

Juggling two very different lives, Christine quickly finds herself attracted to the rush of control and intimacy.

The Girlfriend Experience is available xclusively on Amazon Prime Video in the UK, Germany and Austria from today, and will be available in Japan later this year.

“With a captivating story, combined with an mesmerizing performance by Riley Keough and executive produced by Steven Soderbergh, The Girlfriend Experience provides a dramatic and emotional look into this provocative world,”says Brad Beale, Vice President of Worldwide Television Acquisition for Amazon.

“We are excited to bring this extraordinary series exclusively to Prime members in the UK, Germany, Austria, and Japan.”

Jeffrey Hirsch, Chief Operating Officer at Starz, added: “Starz is very pleased to license ‘The Girlfriend Experience’ to Amazon for these markets.

“Starz is making breakthrough original programming that engages and delights its fans. ‘The Girlfriend Experience’ is a stunning limited series with an incredible performance by star Riley Keough.”
