iOS and Android users can now grab a “significantly updated” version of UKTV Play, the catch-up and on-demand app from British broadcaster UKTV, from their respective app stores.
The firm, which operates a bundle of genre themed free-to-air and subscription channels, is Britain’s biggest multichannel broadcaster and moved into the on-demand space in 2014.
As well as providing catch-up content, the UKTV Play service has been used to premiere episodes of new and returning series.
The updated free app now offers “a more focused” way to find programmes, higher-quality programme images and the introduction of easy-to-view genre listings. The content on offer has also been bolstered with an extended selection of quality Box Sets.
In addition to the smartphone and tablet app, UKTV Play is also available on Amazon Fire TV, on a range of set top boxes and via a desktop site which is credited with a 50% increase in views over the past 12 months.
UKTV’s Head of Digital Products, Oliver Davies, said, “The new, streamlined interface has been designed so viewers can find something great to watch in seconds.
“The uktvplay.co.uk desktop site update has been brilliantly received by our users, helping to drive a significant increase in views, so we’re delighted to be rolling it out onto our iOS and Android mobile apps.
“The new-look app has a premium feel that mirrors the quality of our content.”
